Many of the greatest photographs ever taken were shot in black & white. Ansel Adams, Paul Strand, Walker Evans and Margaret Bourke-White were all masters of the color-free medium and their images are testimony to its inherent beauty and timeless qualities. While most of us now capture images in color, there is still a place in the world for black & white (or monochrome) imagery. In this Zoom workshop we will be taking the time to stir the gray matter and explore the creative visual possibilities of the monochromatic image. We begin with learning how to see in monochrome, then move through the technical aspects of transforming a color digital image into black and white. We explore subjects including places, portraits, abstract, and landscape to help master your monochromatic vision. Bringing together the aesthetic and technical considerations for the monochromatic image will open a new vision for thoughtful and timeless image creation.
